Historical Production & Location Reference

Film: Limousine Love (1928)
Stars: Charley Chase
Studio: Hal Roach Studios
Featured Historical Landmarks:
  • The Culver Hotel: The landmark flatiron structure serves as a primary back-drop, with several prominent exterior sequences captured directly outside the building.

Production & Preservation Note: Filmed almost entirely on location within the downtown core of Culver City, Limousine Love offers a remarkable archival window looking a century back in time. The historic Culver Hotel, captured here just four years after its 1924 opening, stands as a beautifully preserved anchor point for mapping the physical evolution of the city's early cinematic landscape.

The plot is quite complex, but here's a brief summary: Charley's wedding day has arrived and as he drives to the wedding ceremony, he discovers a woman has taken refuge in the back of his car. This will likely NOT go over well with his bride-to-be should she discover the woman and the movie focuses on Charley's efforts to get the woman out of his car without his bride-to-be and the assembled wedding guests discovering the woman.

Limousine Love was almost entirely filmed on location in the downtown core of Culver City, California and is a great time capsule taking us back a century in time. This Quick Preview Video shows us a few of the scenes filmed outside the Culver Hotel. Thanks to a multi-millon dollar restoration (and landmark status), the building looks as good today as it did when it first opened in 1924.

Who Was Charley Chase?

Charley Chase (real name Charles Parrott) was a prolific comedy writer, director and actor in the 1920s and 1930s, having been one of the people responsible for developing the Our Gang / The Little Rascals series at the Hal Roach Studios. Chase is probably best known for his featured role in the 1933 Laurel and Hardy classic movie Sons of the Desert, but he also starred in his own series of comedy shorts and, in the late 1930s, he directed some of the best short comedies by The Three Stooges.
