Historical Production & Location Reference

Episode Title: Any Second Now (1987)
TV Series: Hunter (Season 3)
Studio Origin: Stephen J. Cannell Productions
Director: James Whitmore Jr.
Featured Historical Landmarks:
  • Downtown Culver City: The commercial corridor along Culver Boulevard in the 9300 and 9400 block are extensively utilized. The Culver Hotel is visible in the chase scene along with the entrance to the alley on the Culver Blvd side of the Adams Hotel. This is the same alley that was used more than 50 years earlier as a filming location in the Laurel and Hardy movie Liberty.

Production & Preservation Note: When this episode was lensed in 1987, the production team intentionally leveraged downtown Culver City for its weathered, seedy aesthetic—the result of decades of mid-century neglect. This provides a stark visual contrast to the bustling, newly built streetscapes captured sixty years earlier in Hal Roach’s Laurel and Hardy comedy shorts and Our Gang (The Little Rascals) productions. Today, these exact storefronts and intersections have been entirely transformed by late-20th and early-21st-century revitalization efforts, making this sequence an invaluable document of the area's lowest architectural ebb.

Once Prosperous Culver City In Decline

When this popular TV series from the mid and late 1980s needed a filming location that looked seedy - they turned to downtown Culver City, California.

In stark contrast to what we see of this area from the Laurel and Hardy and Our Gang / The Little Rascals films from the 1920s and 30s when everything was new and bustling, by the 1980s the area had declined dramatically. The stores and hotels were still there, but the decades of neglect is very apparent, as you'll see in your tour of Culver City filming locations in this video.
