| Episode Title: | Battle of Waikiki (1968) - Part 1 |
| TV Series: | I Dream of Jeannie (Season 4) |
| Studio Origin: | Screen Gems / Sidney Sheldon Productions |
| Director: | Hal Cooper |
Production & Preservation Note: Lensed on location in Honolulu, this sequence provides a magnificent architectural record of mid-century Hawaiian resort styling. The iconic Ilikai Hotel—famous as the soaring backdrop in the opening titles of Hawaii Five-O—stands structurally intact today, retaining its signature modernist profile despite substantial landscape updates and modern high-rise development crowding the adjacent Waikiki coast over the intervening decades.
In this classic episode, Jeannie has summoned King Kamehameha I to modern-day Honolulu.
This Quick Preview video looks at the King's visit to the Ilikai Hotel as he struggles to confront mid-20th century innovations like luggage conveyor belts and fountains ("the rain is falling up!").
Filming took place at the hotel entrance and in the back garden area. Aside from a few landscaping and architectural changes, the filming location is easily recognizable today.
