Featured Historical Landmarks:
- 3300 Block of Motor Avenue: Serves as the high-stakes racetrack where the Gang pilots their makeshift, animal-powered dragsters.
- Woodbine Street Between Motor Avenue and Vinton Avenue: The familiar alley used in many of the Our Gang / The Little Rascals movies, including their 1932 movie The Pooch.
Production & Preservation Note: Standing on the absolute threshold between the silent and sound eras of cinema, Cat, Dog and Co. offers invaluable documentation of the 3300 block of Motor Avenue during the late 1920s. This short captures a beautiful snapshot of the early twentieth-century character of this section of the Palms neighborhood on the Westside of Los Angeles.
One of the last silent The Little Rascals (Our Gang) movies has the Gang racing their pet-powered dragsters down the neighborhood streets. A lady (Hedda Hopper!) from the local "Be Kind To Animals Society" spots the Gang and convinces them that they shouldn't be using their pets to power their racing vehicles and to spread the word that all animals need to be treated kindly.
Once again for a Little Rascals movie, the locations used for filming are in the same few blocks of the Palms neighborhood of Los Angeles. If you've been watching The Little Rascals films featured on this site, you'll immediately recognize the filming locations.
