- La Cienega Blvd & Venice Blvd: The location where Miss Crabtree drops off Jackie Cooper, giving us a look at the still wide-open spaces prevalent on the Westside of Los Angeles in 1930.
- Pacific Electric Railway Viaduct: Features prominent visual documentation of the historic concrete and steel rail overpass that once spanned the major intersection at La Cienega Blvd & Venice Blvd.
Production & Preservation Note: Widely considered one of the definitive entries in the entire franchise, Teacher's Pet captures a transitional moment in West Los Angeles history. The large Pacific Electric Railway viaduct featured during the roadside drop-off has since been completely removed, transforming the once rail-dominated intersection into a heavily trafficked, modern automotive thoroughfare. In addition, the vacant lots along the side of Venice Blvd have all been developed.
The Plot
Possibly the best Our Gang / The Little Rascals movie in the series, this film has all the elements that made The Little Rascals memorable: A perfect balance of comedy and pathos incorporated in a simple, relatable plot (the kids are apprehensive about their new teacher to start out the school year). Tying it all together are those wonderful background tunes written by Leroy Shield that have become synonymous with the series.
The Filming Location
In this then and now filming location quick preview video, we see Miss Crabtree (the new teacher) dropping off her new student Jackie Cooper at the corner of La Cienega Blvd and Venice Blvd in Los Angeles. This scene gives us a great view of the Pacific Electric Railway viaduct at this intersection and as you'll see in the views of the intersection today, the viaduct is gone and the intersection is rather snarled with traffic - and a pedestrian nightmare!
