- Santa Monica Boulevard: The site of the film's singular location shot, filmed right outside the studio gates.
Production & Preservation Note: Produced on a shoestring budget in the 1930s, Reefer Madness is famously studio-bound, relying almost entirely on the facilities at The Lot. While the studio itself has undergone numerous name changes—from its origins as the Pickford-Fairbanks Studios to its modern iteration—it remains an active and vital part of the West Hollywood production landscape. The rare location footage captured on Santa Monica Boulevard offers a distinct, albeit brief, glimpse into the area's 1930s streetscape.
The cult classic movie from the 1930s warning of the "new drug menace which is destroying the youth of America."
Reefer Madness was filmed almost entirely at the historic (Mary) Pickford-(Douglas) Fairbanks Studios, which later became United Artists, then Samuel Goldwyn Studios and these days is simply named The Lot.
Made on a very low budget, the one scene shot on location was filmed on Santa Monica Blvd right outside of the studio!
