The Three Stooges - Hoi Polloi (1935) - Filming Locations

Watch the Quick Preview Video below, and scroll down for information about the filming locations.

Historical Production & Location Reference

Film Title: Hoi Polloi (1935)
Comedy Team: The Three Stooges
Studio Origin: Columbia Pictures (Short Subjects)
Director: Del Lord
Featured Historical Landmarks:
  • N. Larchmont Boulevard: Serves as a primary street location for the early refuse collection sequences as the Stooges gather noisy cans.
  • Rudolph Valentino Memorial: Located in De Longpre Park, this striking monument serves as the backdrop for the short's final sequence.

Production & Preservation Note: While most of Hoi Polloi utilized Columbia's interior stages, its outdoor sequences preserve a rare glimpse of 1935 Hollywood landscapes. While the historic Rudolph Valentino Memorial still stands today in De Longpre Park, it has seen better days, making this classic footage an important archival record of its original setting and condition.

The Stooges have jobs collecting refuse - it appears they are primarily collecting cans that are extremely noisy when they invariably end up being shoveled on Moe's head! They're spotted by some well-to-do professors who make a wager among themselves that The Three Stooges can be turned into "proper gentlemen." Or course we all know THAT is impossible!

Two filming locations are seen in this quick preview video: One on Larchmont Blvd in Los Angeles and we also get a quick glimpse of the final scene which was filmed at a beautiful memorial to Rudolph Valentino. Fortunately, the memorial still stands but as you'll see, it's had better days.
