Historical Production & Location Reference

Film Title: Three Little Beers (1935)
Comedy Team: The Three Stooges
Studio Origin: Columbia Pictures (Short Subjects)
Director: Del Lord
Featured Historical Landmarks:
  • Echo Park Neighborhood: Serving as the main backdrop for the short's outdoor segments, the streets and steep hillsides of Echo Park provided the perfect setting for the runaway beer barrel chaos.

Production & Preservation Note: The Three Stooges rarely filmed on location, making this short an invaluable historical time capsule of 1930s Los Angeles infrastructure. Remarkably, as showcased in the then-and-now documentation, a high concentration of the vintage residential structures and streetways captured by Del Lord's camera crew in 1935 remain standing today.

The Three Stooges didn't film on location often, but when they did, they ended up creating a time capsule of several Los Angeles neighborhoods in the 1930s and early 1940s.

The filming locations for this film are in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. Surprisingly, as you'll see in the then and now comparisons, many of the buildings seen in the film in 1936 are still around today.
