- 5300 Block Of Second Avenue, Los Angeles: The homes seen lining both sides of this block in the movie in 1931 are still standing today.
- 2401 West 54th Street, Los Angeles: At the time of filming, this building was occupied by a grocery store. The building still stands today.
Production & Preservation Note: Hasty Marriage also did extensive on location filming on the 5300 block of Second Avenue in Los Angeles. The scene filmed at the northwest corner of Second Avenue and West 54th Street gives us a great view of 2401 West 54th Street, a welcoming, open grocery store. The building still stands today, but the windows have been covered over in concrete and the entire building looks like an excellent candidate for demolition.
The Plot
Charley Chase and his girlfriend Kitty want to (eventually) get married, but Kitty's mother doesn't approve of Charley, primarily because he is unemployed. Charley applies for a job at a streetcar company and gets the job but there's a hitch - the company only hire married men, thus forcing Charley and Kitty into a "Hasty Marriage."
Time Has Not Been Kind To This Filming Location
It's always a good thing when a building or landmark featured in a movie made 90+ years ago is still standing today, however 2401 West 54th Street on the northwest corner of Second Avenue is an example of how the decades can take their toll. Over the years, those large windows on all sides of the building have been covered over with cement, leaving just a single "opening" in the building - the doorway on the 54th Street side. Today, a rusty sign that reads "Not Open For Business" is hung on the bars protecting the entrance. A sad state of affairs for a building that once looked like a welcome part of the neighborhood.
