Historical Production & Location Reference

Episode Title: Scrap Metal (1986) - Part 1
TV Series: Hunter (Season 2)
Studio Origin: Stephen J. Cannell Productions
Director: Michael Preece
Featured Historical Landmarks:
  • Culver City Streetscapes: The commercial corridor and urban infrastructure of the 8500 block of Washington Blvd in Culver City provide the realistic, gritty canvas for Detective Rick Hunter and Sergeant Dee Dee McCall as they launch their investigation, starting at 8564 Washington Blvd.
  • Residential Culver City Streetscapes: The residential neighborhood centered around the Cattaraugus Avenue and Jacob Street intersection is featured and illustrates how this section of Culver City has not yet undergone redevelopment from the current 1920s housing stock to newer construction.

Production & Preservation Note: Stephen J. Cannell's gritty 1980s police procedurals heavily favored extensive, practical on-location shooting across the Los Angeles area. This specific 1986 sequence functions as an invaluable architectural time capsule, capturing Culver City's mid-80s street level appearance prior to the late-20th-century redevelopment. These same pavement corridors mirror the geographic footprints frequently used by historical short subject units decades earlier, tracking a continuous line of Hollywood's relationship with local streetscapes.

A Rarely Seen Area Of Culver City

In this filming locations video, we journey to the 8500 block of Washington Blvd in the northeast corner of Culver City and then move on to the residential neighborhood at the intersection of Cattaraugus Avenue and Jacob Street. Fortunately, the trend of tearing down the original neighborhood homes - many of which date back to the 1920s - has not yet arrived in this immediate area.
