| Film: | Helpmates (1932) |
| Stars: | Laurel and Hardy |
| Studio: | Hal Roach Studios |
Production & Preservation Note: Filmed on studio property right next to the house at 8885 Carson Street, which still stands today.
Mrs. Hardy has gone to Chicago to visit her mother and while she was away, Mr. Hardy "threw a wild party." The morning after the party a telegram arrives from Mrs. Hardy that states she will be returning home a few days early - in fact, that afternoon! Mr. Hardy enlists his friend Mr. Laurel to come over and clean up the house before Mrs. Hardy returns. Unfortunately, while Mr. Hardy was picking up Mrs. Hardy at the train depot, Mr. Laurel burned down the house!
The scene in this Quick Preview Filming Location Then and Now Video was filmed at the edge of the studio's property on Carson Street, and we get great views of 8885 Carson Street and 8880 Carson Street (both built in 1923 and still standing today).
This was a favorite filming location for the Hal Roach Studios, as it was literally right next to a residential neighborhood, so any scene that required this kind of setting could be easily filmed without the film crew having to travel.
Two examples of this same filming location being used give us great views of this neighborhood as it was just being built:
