Main Street In Culver City - 1933 vs Today
|
|
In this frame from the movie, we get a great view of Main Street in Downtown Culver City:
-
Every building seen in the 1933 view is still standing today.
-
Note how parking was diagonal in 1933, while it is parallel parking today.
-
This is the exact filming location used three years earlier in the Nat Carr comedy Traffic Tangle.

Featured Historical Landmarks:
-
The 3800 Block of Main Street (Culver City): Miraculously, and with no assistance from any historical preservation or landmarking designation, this block in Culver City has survived completely intact, with all the original 1910s and 1920s buildings still standing today.
Production & Preservation Note: A rarity in the Los Angeles area, every building on both sides of Main Street is still standing, with only minor facade changes over the decades.
The Plot
Taxi drivers Ben Blue and Billy Gilbert accidentally side-swipe a policeman's motorcyle, which results in a high speed chase through the streets of Downtown Culver City.
