- Boyle Heights Industrial District: The north side of Union Pacific Avenue in the vicinity of the South Calzona Street intersection is very much as it was when it was captured on film for Thriller.
- "Zombie Street" Then and Now: Looking east on "Zombie Street" a.k.a. Union Pacific Avenue we can see that all the buildings along the north side of the street remain standing today.
Production & Preservation Note: As explored in this Quick Preview, large swaths of this Boyle Heights industrial area utilized by director John Landis in 1983 remain surprisingly intact. While the passage of four decades has brought one major change to the area - the loss of the warehouses along the south side of the street - the rest of this filming location remains as it was in 1983.
The Plot
Here's the third Quick Preview Video excerpt of Thriller then and now filming locations. The famous "Zombie Dance" scene is now in full effect!
The Filming Location
In contrast to the south side of Union Pacific Avenue that we saw in the prior Quick Preview Video, the north side of the block looks almost exactly as it did when Thriller was filmed here over 40 years ago.
The prominent brick building on the left is the back of 3700 Olympic Blvd, which was built in 1941.
This being Los Angeles, the question is... how much longer will the buildings on this side of the street hang on before being replaced with modern construction?
