Historical Production & Location Reference

Film: Dog Heaven (1927)
Stars: Our Gang / The Little Rascals (Joe Cobb)
Studio: Hal Roach Studios
Featured Historical Landmarks:
  • The Tabor Family House (3563 Motor Avenue): One of the earliest residential structures erected in the Palms neighborhood during the early 1900s, acting as a recurring backdrop for classic Hal Roach shorts.
  • 3570 Motor Avenue: The commercial building across the street from the Tabor house. This building appeared in the 1930s Charley Chase shorts Midsummer Mush and His Silent Racket, as well as in the Our Gang / The Little Rascals movie Bouncing Babies in 1929.

Production & Preservation Note: The historic Tabor house stands as a cross-generational cinematic landmark, bridging the silent era of Our Gang with mid-1970s television when it appeared in a scene in the Charlie's Angels episode "Target: Angels." Today, modern high-density development has claimed nearly all of the original residences in the Palms neighborhood of Los Angeles, this footage offers a vital visual record of one of the neighborhood's longest-surviving homes.

In this second installment of our Dog Heaven filming locations series, we get an exclusive look at one of the most significant historic structures in the Palms neighborhood of Los Angeles: the Tabor family house.

A Century of History at 3563 Motor Avenue

Formerly located at 3563 Motor Avenue, the Tabor house was one of the first homes built in Palms during the early 1900s. While most original residences in the area have been lost to development, this house managed to survive longer than nearly any other, serving as a filming location for Hal Roach Studios productions in the 1920s and 1930s.

From Our Gang to Charlie’s Angels

Beyond its role in the Our Gang / The Little Rascals short Dog Heaven, the house is a cross-generational filming landmark. It even makes a prominent appearance in the 1976 Charlie’s Angels episode Target: Angels.
