- The Culver Hotel: Built in 1923-24, the historic Culver Hotel has appeared in many movies and TV episodes, including movies by Laurel and Hardy and TV episodes of the 1980s cop show Hunter.
- The Adams Hotel: Another Culver City landmark, the Adams Hotel appeared in 1920s comedy movies by Laurel and Hardy to the popular 1970s TV series Charlie's Angels.
- 3850 Main Street: The filming location landmark that appears in dozens of Hal Roach Studios comedies made in the 1920s and 1930s including the 1928 Max Davidson comedy The Boy Friend.
- 3853 Main Street: The filming location landmark also appears in dozens of Hal Roach Studios comedies made in the 1920s and 1930s including the 1933 Our Gang / The Little Rascals movie The Kid From Borneo.
Production & Preservation Note: A time capsule for the heart of downtown Culver City. The stunning 360 degree panorama scene of a dizzy Farina and his lamb standing in the middle of the intersection of Culver Blvd and Main Street is a valuable historical record of this busy intersection.
The Plot
In this scene from the silent comedy from the Our Gang / The Little Rascals series, Your Own Back Yard, Farina got stuck in a revolving door. Finally free, a very dizzy Farina steps into the intersection of Culver Blvd and Main Street in Culver City.
Culver Blvd and Main Street - 1925 vs Today
In the 1920s through the early 1950s, the Pacific Electric Railway tracks ran right down the middle of Culver Blvd. This scene from Your Own Back Yard provides a great look at the railway tracks and the Quick Preview video shows the same location today, without the railway tracks.
We also get a full, 360 degree view of the intersection and surrounding buildings. Very few movies have used this technique on location and as a result, Your Own Back Yard is a rare, detailed and historical look back at the downtown core of Culver City in the 1920s.
